June 2024
Welcome to our June newsletter.
While it has been a little quieter than usual on the cupping event side of things in the last few weeks, this month we have an avalanche of coffee tasting events that we’d like to share with you! Next week, we will have the honour and pleasure of welcoming guests who are travelling from the department of Antioquia in Colombia as well as members of the Embassy of El Salvador in the United Kingdom. Then, last but not least, we’re also delighted to announce our very first collaborative ‘multi-importer’ cupping event and Q&A.
So… who’s up for a cup tasting marathon? :)
Join us on Tuesday the 25th of June from 10.30am to 2pm for a two-part cupping of some of the most exquisite lots produced by Cafe Lumbus and imported in the UK by Meridian Traders.
Based in Antioquia, a region historically characterized by its high productivity, Cafe Lumbus produces and export high quality coffees from the 7 farms they operate in the department, as well as coffees grown by a network of over 60 producers from several other regions such as Huila, Cauca and Caldas.
On this occasion, we’ll have the pleasure of welcoming Ricardo Restrepo and Santiago Jurado of Cafe Lumbus (on their way to WOC Copenhagen), as well as Dean Cartwright of Meridian Traders for an exclusive tasting session of some of their finest coffees. Several cultivars will be available to sample, including Maragogype, Chiroso, Papayo Bourbon, Gesha, Tabi, Caturra, as well as the more traditional Castillo and Colombia varieties.
From Honey processed single farm lot to larger regional blends and decaf options, a large spectrum of qualities and profiles will be on display. A fantastic opportunity to explore what the (often less represented) region of Antioquia has to offer!
EL SALVADOR CUP OF EXCELLENCE FINALIST
TASTING & PRESENTATION
The Embassy of El Salvador and The Independent Coffee Lab are pleased to invite you to a discovery tasting session featuring coffees produced by the finalist of this year’s Cup of Excellence of El Salvador.
The event will be held at The Independent Coffee Lab on Thursday the 27th of June at 9.30am. We will be joined by the Ambassador of El Salvador in the United Kingdom and will also have the opportunity of connecting with the Salvadoran Coffee Institute via live video call for a presentation of their work and the Cup of Excellence program.
Join us on Thursday the 27th of June from 4pm to 6.30pm for our very first collaborative, ‘multi-importer’ cupping and Q&A.
We are delighted to announce our first collaborative cupping event and social meetup in which we will showcase and share information about coffees readily available on the market (spot position) from Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Peru and Yemen that have been sourced and brought to the UK by no less than 6 different import companies:
Royalty Specialty Coffees (Brazil, Kenya & Peru)
Sabor Coffee (Risaralda, Colombia)
Arcadia Green Coffee (Huila, Colombia)
Zerai Coffee (Ethiopia)
The South India Coffee Company (India)
Aqeeq Haraz Bunn (Yemen)
A selection of coffees from the current collaborative offer list (more on that below) will be available to sample. This new monthly meetup and cupping is a great opportunity to learn more about a wide variety of coffee growers and companies that are producing, sourcing and importing some truly unique and delicious coffees.
